In 1976, South Africa’s SAA was one of the more grateful customers of the “short jumbo”. Since almost all African countries refused over-flight rights because of South Africa’s apartheid policy, SAA had to fly “the long way round” to Europe. Thanks to its range of 12,000 kilometers, the original of this limited model, the 747SP-44 with the registration ZS-SPB and the name “Outeniqua” was able to reach Frankfurt or London with just one stopover. The model with the polished fuselage will be released in the livery of the 1960s and 70s, to celebrate the airline’s 75th anniversary.
