After heavy economical blows, the world’s second largest airline was forced to comply with bankruptcy protection measures for three years, until February 1, 2006. During Chapter 11 proceedings, the airline divested itself of approximately 100 airplanes for reasons of economy. The original of this model, the Boeing 747-422 with the registration N196UA has, however, survived the drastic fleet reduction. It was commissioned in June 1997 and today flies with the airline’s new livery.
