This Ju-52 is not only legendary as an original aircraft. As a Herpa model in the 1/160 scale, it has been part of the range almost continuously since the beginnings of Herpa Wings. It was first registered as D-AQUI on April 6, 1936, and flew for Deutsche Luft Hansa, with only a short intermission, until 1945. After the end of World War II, she continued to be used commercially in Norway until the mid-1950s, before being sold to Ecuador, where she carried passengers and cargo for several more years until ultimately being decommissioned in Quito in 1962. A few years later, American aviation enthusiasts and pilots discovered the wreck there, renovated the aircraft, and displayed the Ju-52 at air shows as "Iron Annie." In 1984, Lufthansa acquired the aircraft to restore it for its upcoming 60th anniversary. Until 2018, "Auntie Ju", as she was lovingly called, thrilled thousands of spectators at air shows and more than 1,000 passengers on sightseeing flights over Germany, until being put into storage in 2019. Just in time for the 100th anniversary of the founding of the first Lufthansa, she will be the main attraction of the Lufthansa Group's new conference and visitor center from spring 2026, together with the legendary Lockheed Super Star. To mark the anniversary, this classic is now being released in a new edition with redesigned packaging.
