CSA Czechoslovak Airlines

Ilyushin IL-62M

The Il-62 became ČSA’s first long-range jet airliner and opened the airline’s intercontinental era, including the Prague–New York route via Montreal that began in 1970. Across its history, ČSA operated a total of 21 Il-62-family aircraft between 1969 and 1997, including six modernized Il-62Ms. OK-JBJ was delivered to ČSA in 1979. The aircraft belonged to the second wave of improved Il-62Ms at Czechoslovakia’s national carrier. In ČSA service, OK-JBJ was part of the carrier’s long-haul fleet and was operated on lease to Hungaria’s Malév in 1991 (also released by Herpa, item number 573047). After retirement in 1996, she went on to charter work at Bemoair before being sold off to Yana Airlines of Cambodia, who however never took up the aircraft: she was ferried to the United Arab Emirates, but never reached Cambodia and was scrapped years later at Ras Al Khaimah. ,The Il-62 became ČSA’s first long-range jet airliner and opened the airline’s intercontinental era, including the Prague–New York route via Montreal that began in 1970.
