Founded in 2007 to fill the gap left by Lloyd Aéreo Boliviano (LAB), which had become insolvent a few months earlier, the new airline – further aided by the bankruptcy of Bolivia’s second-largest carrier, Aerosur – quickly evolved from a regional carrier into an airline that also operates intercontinentally. In addition to several Boeing 737s of various models, the long-haul fleet currently consists of three Airbus A330-200s, each adorned with an Amazon jaguar or an Andean condor to symbolize the country’s geographic and cultural diversity. The airport in the capital, La Paz, is located at an altitude of 4,000 meters, over 14,000 feet. Due to the thin air at such high altitude, wide-body aircraft cannot take off from there at full payload. Therefore, international destinations such as Miami or Madrid, which are served by the A330s, are operated from the airport in the country’s largest city, Santa Cruz de la Sierra. ,Founded in 2007 to fill the gap left by Lloyd Aéreo Boliviano (LAB), which had become insolvent a few months earlier, the new airline – further aided by the bankruptcy of Bolivia’s second-largest carrier, Aerosur – quickly evolved from a regional carrier into an airline that also operates intercontinentally.
