The first of twelve A350-1000ULR (Ultra Long Range) aircraft for Qantas under Project Sunrise has been undergoing pre-delivery flight tests throughout 2026, including a first long-range test flight from Toulouse to Melbourne in July. These specially configured A350s will enable the world's longest commercial flights, connecting Australia's east coast non-stop to London and New York for the first time. The aircraft will be able to fly for up to 22 hours, made possible by an additional 20,000 liter fuel tank, and by reducing the passenger capacity, focusing on giving each customer more space to increase wellbeing on such long-distance flights. The Project Sunrise name is a nod to the airline's historic 'Double Sunrise' flights during World War II, which remained airborne long enough to see two sunrises. Deliveries to Qantas are to commence in early 2027, and commercial services are planned to begin in October the same year. ,The first of twelve A350-1000ULR (Ultra Long Range) aircraft for Qantas under Project Sunrise has been undergoing pre-delivery flight tests throughout 2026, including a first long-range test flight from Toulouse to Melbourne in July.
