The MQ-9 is a remotely controlled, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). It is flown by a crew of two from a ground station. With its single 900 hp turboprop engine, the MQ-9 can reach a maximum speed of 480 km/h (300 mph), while the 1,800 kg (4,000 lb) of fuel give it a range of 1,900 km (1,200 mi). This MQ-9 was named "Ikhana" by NASA. The name stems from the Native American Choctaw language meaning "intelligent, conscious, aware" – quite fitting for an aircraft that is used in the research and testing of new advanced systems for observation, data collection and autonomous operations of UAVs. In addition to being used for numerous science projects since being obtained back in 2006, "Ikhana" has been called upon to survey wildfires and support firefighter deployments throughout California. This 1/72 scale die-cast metal model can be displayed on its landing gear or in-flight with retracted landing gear. Two sets of landing gear and a display stand are included.
