The first version of the Boeing 747, the Boeing 747-100, was introduced in commercial service not later than 1970. At that time the size and capacity of the 747 was revolutionary (no other widebody aircraft did exist yet!). Its huge size earned the plane the popular nickname Jumbo Jet. The Boeing 747 stayed the largest passenger aircraft for decades, until the introduction of the Airbus A380 in 2007. Modern versions of the 747 are still in production.
